Oman Air to fly Salalah-Calicut direct from March 27
March 23 (TravelAndy): Oman Air, the national carrier of Oman, announced a new daily direct flight between Salalah, capital city of southern Oman’s Dhofar province and Calicut, Kerala, starting March 27, 2017.
The three-and-a-half hour flight will depart Salalah at 01.10 and arrive in Calicut at 06.20. The return flight will leave Calicut at 07.00 and arrive in Salalah at 09.15. (Also read: Oman Air to fly Muscat-Nairobi from March 27)

India: Alternate train for wait-listed passengers
March 22 (TravelAndy): Indian Railways will now allow wait-listed passengers to avail confirmed seat in the next train to the same destination, without any extra charge.
This is good news for train passengers in India because wait lists run into the hundreds frequently in this country.

Istanbul-Dhaka railway route on the table
March 21 (TravelAndy): The proposal for an Istanbul to Dhaka railway route was discussed at a two-day meeting attended by the representatives of more than 11 countries in New Delhi last week.
The meeting on “Strengthening Railway Transport Connectivity in South and South West Asia” was organised by United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in co-ordination with Organization for Cooperation between Railways (OSJD) and the Indian railway ministry.
Discussions were held to strengthen the rail transport and provide connectivity to the countries in South Asia and South East Asia. Among the countries that took part in the meeting are Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Iran, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey and India. Plans to restore Dhaka-Darjeeling rail link
March 21 (TravelAndy): In order to enhance cross border tourism and trade, India and Bangladesh is looking to restore rail link between Darjeeling and Dhaka.
The rail route between Darjeeling, the hill town in India’s West Bengal state and Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, will be restored after 52 years, since it was severed during India-Pakistan war in 1965, Mujibul Haque, Bangladesh railway minister, told the Dhaka Tribune.

New low-cost option for trans-Altantic flights
March 18 (TravelAndy): A new low-cost long-haul airline will starts operations from Barcelona to Los Angeles, San Francisco (Oakland), Buenos Aires and Punta Cana.
Named LEVEL, the airline brand is being launched by the International Airlines Group (IAG).
Flights to Los Angeles will start on June 1, 2017 and operate twice per week, those to San Francisco (Oakland) will start on June 2, 2017 and operate thrice a week and those to Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) will begin June 10, 2017 and operate twice a week. March 16 (TravelAndy): Oman Air, the national carrier of Oman, has announced the launch of a four-times-a-week flight from Muscat to the Kenyan capital of Nairobi, starting March 27 2017.

Jet Airways & Fiji Airways ink codeshare deal
March 7 (TravelAndy): Jet Airways, India’s full-service premier international airline and Fiji Airways, Fiji’s National Airline, have announced a code-share partnership which offers guests travelling on both carriers convenient and seamless connectivity between India and Fiji via Singapore and Hong Kong. Apart from connectivity, this increases the scope of Jet’s popular frequent flier programme JetPrivilege.
The codeshare agreement, a first-of-its-kind between the airlines of the two countries, will address the growing demand for travel between India and Fiji.
Jet Airways will place its ‘9W’ code on Fiji Airways’ flights from Singapore and Hong Kong to Nadi, and Fiji Airways will place its ‘FJ’ code on Jet Airways’ services between Singapore and Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai as well as between Hong Kong and Mumbai & Delhi. Emirates to fly Dubai-Cambodia from July 1
March 3 (TravelAndy): Emirates will launch its maiden flight on the Dubai-Cambodia route on July 1, 2017.
It will operate daily flights on this route with one stop at Yangon in Myanmar, said the airline.
The flight will depart from Dubai at 09.15 and arrive in Yangon at 17.25. It will leave Yangon at 18.55 and reach Cambodia’s capital Phnom Penh at 21.25. Tourism boost for beach town Digha
March 3 (TravelAndy): The popular beach town of Digha in India’s West Bengal state is set to be developed as an international tourist destination, said reports.
The state government has planned to introduce cable cars and a toy train track along the coast from Digha to Udaypur on the West Bengal-Odisha border.Additionally, a 20km sea-front driveway between Digha and Mandarmani is also on the cards.

SpiceJet to fly Kolkata-Dhaka from March 23
February 28 (TravelAndy): Indian low-cost carrier SpiceJet has announced to start flights between Kolkata and Dhaka from March 23, 2017.
This will be the airline’s seventh international destination.

AirBaltic to fly Riga-Abu Dhabi direct from Oct 29
February 26 (TravelAndy): Low cost carrier airBaltic, which is the flagship carrier of Latvia, will introduce a direct flight between Riga, the Latvian capital and Abu Dhabi, the capital of UAE.
The route will commence from October 29, 2017, said the airline.
