India plans Delhi-Agra sea plane service
June 14 (TravelAndy): Forget road jams! Tourists from Delhi might soon be able to take a sea plane to go see the Taj Mahal in Agra.
India is planning to launch a ‘fly boat’ or sea plane service between the national capital and Agra, said The Times of India (TOI).
“The ‘fly boat’ project will start in the next three months. We have also been in discussions with the Airports Authority of India in order to frame rules and regulations needed to introduce seaplanes on this route,” Nitin Gadkari, union transport minister told TOI. India: Tourist helpline in 12 languages
February 9 (TravelAndy): India has officially launched the much awaited 24X7 tourist infoline, which will assist tourists across the world, in 12 international languages.
This toll free helpline service will be available on 1800111363 or on a short code 1363.

Dolphin boost to Maharashtra tourism
December 9 (TravelAndy): With the recent discovery of nearly 569 dolphins along the coast of Sindhudurg in Maharashtra, tourism in this west Indian state is expected to get a boost, said reports.
A team of biologists along with United Nations Development Programme, the Government of India and Global Environment Facility conducted the survey on the waters of Maharashtra.

Telangana: Helicopter tourism on the cards
December 8 (TravelAndy): Telangana is planning to introduce helicopter tourism in Hyderabad, the state capital, The Hindu said.
Arrangements are also being made for hot air balloons and sea plane facilities, which are going to allow the tourists to enjoy a panoramic view of this four hundred year old Indian city.

Chennai airport closed till Dec 6
December 3 (TravelAndy): Tourism has been largely affected in and around Chennai, due to massive flood that has submerged the capital of Tamil Nadu in India.
The Chennai airport is slated to remain closed, at least till December 6, due to excessive water logging caused by incessant rainfall, said reports.

Delhi to develop eco tourism destination
December 2 (TravelAndy): The Garhi Mandu forest in Delhi is set to become an eco-tourism destination, said reports.
Delhi’s environment minister, Imran Hussain, along with senior officers of Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC), inspected the forest situated in the bank of river Yamuna in Wazirabad village, Delhi.

Punjab looks to boost rural tourism
November 28 (TravelAndy): In an attempt to attract tourists from across the globe, India’s Punjab state is hosting a workshop on rural tourism in Amritsar from December 1.
The project aims at getting tourists to experience a rich pastoral environment where they can stay in eco-friendly cottages and experience the farming tradition of Punjab, said reports.

Pinjore heritage festival from Nov 28
November 27 (TravelAndy): Haryana Tourism will celebrate the 10th Pinjore Festival at the popular Yadavindra Moghul garden in the north Indian state of Haryana on November 28 and November 29, said reports.
This festival is an attempt to promote the heritage and culture of Pinjore, one of the oldest towns in the country.

Railways to run special winter tours
November 24 (TravelAndy): Indian Railways is launching two special trains to boost desert and heritage tourism in the country.
Operated by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC), both the semi-luxury trains will depart from New Delhi. The train designated for the desert circuit will cover the popular tourist cities of Jaiselmer and Jaipur in Rajasthan. The train assigned for the heritage tour will cover Varanasi, Khajuraho and Agra.
The desert circuit train will begin service by mid-December and conclude by April 21. The heritage circuit train will begin service on December 20. It’s last trip of the season will begin on April 24. Continue reading Railways to run special winter tours

Nagaland to host bike festival from Dec 4
November 22 (TravelAndy): In a bid to promote adventure tourism, the Nagaland state in northeastern India will host a mountain biking festival from December 4.
The bike festival will include ‘Kohima Downhill Mountain Bike Race’ on December 4 at Kisama Heritage Village along with the 4th annual Hornbill Cycle Rally, which will kick off from Kohima local ground and conclude at Kisama Heritage Village on December 6.

Badrinath closes gates for this year
November 20 (TravelAndy): The Badrinath temple situated on the Himalayas in India’s Uttarakhand state closed its portals for this year on November 17, said reports.
Extreme weather conditions and snowfall prompts the popular shrine to close its gates every year during winter.
