Batik Air to start three India-Indonesia flights
July 3 (TravelAndy): Indonesian airline Batik Air, a subsidiary of Lion Air, will launch three new flights from Indonesia to India in this month, media reports said.
The flights will operate on Chennai-Kuala Namu, New Delhi-Jakarta and Mumbai-Denpasar routes. (Also read: Indonesia (Bali) visa for Indians)

e-Visas for 18 countries to Russia far east
April 24 (TravelAndy): Russia has simplified visa procedures for the citizens of 18 countries, including India, to its far east when the visitors are entering the country through checkpoints at the Free Port of Vladivostok.
A list of 18 countries has been approved whose citizens can obtain electronic single entry business, tourist or humanitarian visas when entering the Russian Federation through checkpoints at the Free Port of Vladivostok. This initiative is aimed at enhancing the investment appeal of the region and expanding business ties by facilitating projects involving foreign companies, and attracting more foreign tourists, an official statement said.
The signed directive submitted by the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East contains an approved list of 18 countries: Algeria, Bahrein, Brunei, India, Qatar, People’s Republic of China, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Kuwait, Morocco, Mexico, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Tunisia, Turkey and Japan. Indigo adds Mangalore to its flight network
April 19 (TravelAndy): IndiGo, Indian low-cost carrier has announced Mangalore as its new destination, said the airline in a release.
Effective May 01 2017, IndiGo will operate daily non-stop flights from Mangalore to Bengaluru and Mumbai at fares starting Rs 1499.
Mr. Aditya Ghosh, President and Whole Time Director, IndiGo said, “Mangalore, an important seaport and a major commercial centre in Karnataka with the state’s second busiest airport, is fast gaining prominence as a business hub and a tourist gateway. Kolkata-Khulna-Dhaka bus starts
April 9 (TravelAndy): To facilitate travel between India and Bangladesh, a Kolkata-Khulna-Dhaka bus service was flagged off from Kolkata yesterday.
This is a part of several initiatives being taken to strengthen bilateral relations and provide better tourism, road and rail connectivity for citizens of both India and Bangladesh. (Also read: Kolkata budget travel guide)

Istanbul-Dhaka railway route on the table
March 21 (TravelAndy): The proposal for an Istanbul to Dhaka railway route was discussed at a two-day meeting attended by the representatives of more than 11 countries in New Delhi last week.
The meeting on “Strengthening Railway Transport Connectivity in South and South West Asia” was organised by United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in co-ordination with Organization for Cooperation between Railways (OSJD) and the Indian railway ministry.
Discussions were held to strengthen the rail transport and provide connectivity to the countries in South Asia and South East Asia. Among the countries that took part in the meeting are Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Iran, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey and India. Plans to restore Dhaka-Darjeeling rail link
March 21 (TravelAndy): In order to enhance cross border tourism and trade, India and Bangladesh is looking to restore rail link between Darjeeling and Dhaka.
The rail route between Darjeeling, the hill town in India’s West Bengal state and Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, will be restored after 52 years, since it was severed during India-Pakistan war in 1965, Mujibul Haque, Bangladesh railway minister, told the Dhaka Tribune.

IRCTC publishes train food rates for awareness
March 21 (TravelAndy): The Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation Ltd. recently published a food chart with official rates to make passengers aware.
Passengers on Indian Railways often complain how unscrupulous employees charge them more than the official rate for food on trains.

Holi, the festival of colours, today
March 13 (TravelAndy): Holi, the festival of colours, is being celebrated in India and various places around the world today.
Though the festival has Hindu origins, this festival, which is associated with the arrival of Spring, has in recent times transcended religious and political boundaries and is celebrated by people in many countries of the world.
In India, the festival is mainly associated with people colouring each other up with coloured powder (gulal) and water-based colours. Jet Airways & Fiji Airways ink codeshare deal
March 7 (TravelAndy): Jet Airways, India’s full-service premier international airline and Fiji Airways, Fiji’s National Airline, have announced a code-share partnership which offers guests travelling on both carriers convenient and seamless connectivity between India and Fiji via Singapore and Hong Kong. Apart from connectivity, this increases the scope of Jet’s popular frequent flier programme JetPrivilege.
The codeshare agreement, a first-of-its-kind between the airlines of the two countries, will address the growing demand for travel between India and Fiji.
Jet Airways will place its ‘9W’ code on Fiji Airways’ flights from Singapore and Hong Kong to Nadi, and Fiji Airways will place its ‘FJ’ code on Jet Airways’ services between Singapore and Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai as well as between Hong Kong and Mumbai & Delhi. India offers free SIMs to foreign tourists
February 17 (notintown.net): India has decided to start giving free pre-activated SIM cards to foreign tourists arriving in India.
The country’s tourism minister Mahesh Sharma recently launched the scheme which will only be available to tourists arriving in India on e-Visa.

Air India Express to fly Delhi-Dhaka
February 10 (TravelAndy): Air India Express, the low-cost wings of India’s flagship carrier Air India, has announced a new flight between Delhi and Dhaka, commencing from February 16.
Four flights a week will travel between the capital of India and that of Bangladesh, said the airline.
