Ireland woos tourists from China
June 10 (TravelAndy): Tourism Ireland aims to increase the number of the Chinese visitors to the island to 175,000 by the year 2025, Xinhua reported.
“China is the largest outbound travel market in the world and one that Tourism Ireland is committed to growing over the coming years,” the report quoted James Kenny, Tourism Ireland’s China manager, as saying.

Tobacco ban at Jharkhand tourism sites, hotels
June 7 (TravelAndy): The Indian state of Jharkhand has banned the use of tobacco in all forms at its tourist attractions, accommodation facilities and eateries, said reports.
The government notification, which was issued on Tuesday, directs installation of signboards at all tourist sites within 10 days and warns of penal action if the no-tobacco rule is violated at any facility run by Jharkhand Tourism Development Corporation.

Year of Young People events to kick-start Scottish summer
June 4 (TravelAndy): From brass band competitions, film screenings and poetry slams to music festivals, graphic novel exhibitions and carnival parades, a wealth of events, co-designed by Scotland’s young people, is set to celebrate the Year of Young People 2018, capturing the spirit of summertime, as well as the interest of parents for school-holiday inspiration throughout June and July.
Kicking off the events in June is the North-East’s largest food and drink showcase, Taste of Grampian which returns to the Thainstone Centre in Inverurie on 2 June. In addition to a wide range of high-quality food and drink produce from the area, masterclasses and cookery demonstrations by celebrity chefs, you will also be able to get a taste of Grampian’s best young bands, singers and musicians on the brand new Year of Young People Stage. Fun for your ears and taste buds is guaranteed!
On 3 June, Custom House Quay in Greenock will be transformed by Evolve Fest 2018, a vibrant summer festival with fun for all, planned by Inverclyde’s young people. Try your hands at arts, crafts and upcycling during pop-up workshops, see two unique films created by young filmmakers, dance along to brand-new music composed by young musicians working with ‘Love and Money’ frontman James Grant, enjoy specially choreographed performances by the Beacon Youth Dance Club and Clydeview Academy students and be inspired by a visual art exhibition created by local high school students from St Columba’s High School, Gourock. India launches adventure tourism guidelines
June 2 (TravelAndy): India’s tourism minister K. J. Alphons recently launched the government’s guidelines on adventure tourism.
These guidelines on Safety and Quality Norms for Adventure Tourism in India have been formulated along with the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) in an effort to make adventure sports safer.
Releasing the guidelines, the Tourism Minister said India has immense potential for adventure tourism ranging from the Himalayas to the coastal regions. Shri. K. J. Alphons said that these guidelines are a beginning to building adventure tourism in India and extended whole support to all stakeholders for developing this niche sector so as to tap the whole potential offered. The Minister also added that for India to be a well sought after destination, the facilities and support staff should be developed to global standards. Tulip attraction for Kashmir visitors
March 4 (TravelAndy): The Tulip Garden in Srinagar has added 50 varieties of flowers and north India’s Jammu and Kashmir state government expects a boost in tourist inflow because of that, said The Kashmir Monitor.
2017: Great year for Scotland tourism
February 26 (TravelAndy): The Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions (ASVA) has announced that visits to its member sites rose dramatically in 2017, the fourth year running that an increase in numbers has been recorded.
ASVA, which represents the interests of the key visitor attractions sector in Scotland, has over 450 members comprising some of Scotland’s most popular and iconic castles, galleries, museums, historic houses, heritage sites, wildlife parks, gardens and leisure attractions.
Analysis of statistics submitted by 232 of the organisation’s member sites for its annual ‘Visitor Trends Report’ confirms that over 30 million visits were made to those sites in Scotland in 2017, a rise of 9.7% over 2016 figures. The increase comes on top of a 6% rise in 2016, which itself followed a 3.4% rise in 2015, confirming once again that visitor attractions in Scotland are enjoying a period of sustained growth. Indonesia to promote 10 ‘new Balis’
February 24 (TravelAndy): Indonesia intends to promote 10 new tourist destinations as “the new Bali”, the South China Morning Post said.
The beautiful beaches and picturesque rice fields attract millions of tourists to Bali every year and Indonesia intends to cash in on the island’s popularity through this tourism promotion exercise. (ALSO READ: My 2016 prediction on Bali is coming true now)
Indonesia, which is looking to increase it’s tourism revenue from 4 per cent of the country’s GDP in 2014 to 20 per cent in 2019, is looking at China to be its major investor in this initiative. Ukraine plans Chernobyl tourism push
February 23 (TravelAndy): Ukraine will develop tourism near the destroyed Chernobyl nuclear power plant, reported Xinhua.
Quoting the Ukraine’s state agency for the Chernobyl zone management, the report said a new hotel and an information centre for tourists will be opened in Chernobyl.

Fears abate, tourists return to Tunisia
February 22 (TravelAndy): International tourists are returning to Tunisia after a lull since the 2015 terrorist attacks that killed 60 visitors.
“We aim to receive eight million tourists this year with strong booking rates from European customers and other new customers,” reports quoted the country’s tourism minister Salma Loumi as saying. “The return of British tourist is very good signal for us.”
In 2015, a gun attack on a Sousse beach left 39 tourist dead and another attack at the Bardo National Museum in Tunis that killed 21. Furore over tiger poke video
December 23 (TravelAndy): An attendant of a tiger at a zoo near Thailand’s popular tourist destination Pattaya has been transferred after he was seen poking a chained tiger to make it road for visitors.
A video that has gone viral on social media shows people posing with a chained tiger to take photographs. Armed with a stick, this attendant is seen poking the tiger in the head to make it road for all the visitors.

Play London with Mr Bean
London (Notintown.net): The Beans were out on the streets to celebrate the launch of a brand new mobile game called Play London with Mr Bean, which helps visitors discover the city’s tourist highlights and forms part of a new drive to attract more UK and international visitors to the capital.
A hill of Mr Beans, made famous by comedian Rowan Atkinson and dressed in trademark tweed jacket while each clutching the iconic ‘Teddy’ bear, travelled on the Underground, went for a ride on the Coca Cola London Eye and took selfies with passers-by in Trafalgar Square. England & Scotland focus on accessible tourism
October 21 (TravelAndy): With more than half of people with access requirements avoiding going to new places if they can’t find information about accessibility, VisitEngland and VisitScotland have formed a unique partnership to help businesses tap into the accessible tourism market.
The national tourism organisations have launched a new, free to use website for the easy production and publication of Accessibility Guides. An Accessibility Guide is produced by tourism operators to provide potential visitors with important accessibility information about their venue and service.
The website provides tourism venues with an opportunity to increase business by providing information to potential visitors with access requirements in a user-friendly format. As well as being easier for businesses to complete, the new guide format standardises how information is presented making it easier for disabled customers, their friends and family to compare venues.
