Tunisia tourism industry in recovery mode
June 20 (TravelAndy): Holidaymakers are returning to Tunisia three years after two terrorist attacks hit the industry hard.
Around 2.3 million tourists visited Tunisia between January 1 to May 20, 2018, an increase of 21.8 per cent from the same period last year, said The New Arab referring to government figures.

Trouble-torn Kashmir seeks to attract foreign tourists
June 18 (TravelAndy): The troubled north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir organised a familiarization trip for five foreign travel writers earlier this month, Greater Kashmir reported.
The writers from Australia and the UK visited Leh and Srinagar during their trip.
At the end of their trip, the visitors met the state’s tourism minister who told them about the wonderful experiences that the mountainous state had to offer. Ireland woos tourists from China
June 10 (TravelAndy): Tourism Ireland aims to increase the number of the Chinese visitors to the island to 175,000 by the year 2025, Xinhua reported.
“China is the largest outbound travel market in the world and one that Tourism Ireland is committed to growing over the coming years,” the report quoted James Kenny, Tourism Ireland’s China manager, as saying.
Hainan Airlines will launch a direct Beijing-Dublin flight service starting on June 12. This is the first direct flight ever to be launched between the Chinese mainland and Ireland. Continue reading Ireland woos tourists from China
2017: Great year for Scotland tourism
February 26 (TravelAndy): The Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions (ASVA) has announced that visits to its member sites rose dramatically in 2017, the fourth year running that an increase in numbers has been recorded.
ASVA, which represents the interests of the key visitor attractions sector in Scotland, has over 450 members comprising some of Scotland’s most popular and iconic castles, galleries, museums, historic houses, heritage sites, wildlife parks, gardens and leisure attractions.
Analysis of statistics submitted by 232 of the organisation’s member sites for its annual ‘Visitor Trends Report’ confirms that over 30 million visits were made to those sites in Scotland in 2017, a rise of 9.7% over 2016 figures. The increase comes on top of a 6% rise in 2016, which itself followed a 3.4% rise in 2015, confirming once again that visitor attractions in Scotland are enjoying a period of sustained growth. Indonesia to promote 10 ‘new Balis’
February 24 (TravelAndy): Indonesia intends to promote 10 new tourist destinations as “the new Bali”, the South China Morning Post said.
The beautiful beaches and picturesque rice fields attract millions of tourists to Bali every year and Indonesia intends to cash in on the island’s popularity through this tourism promotion exercise. (ALSO READ: My 2016 prediction on Bali is coming true now)
Indonesia, which is looking to increase it’s tourism revenue from 4 per cent of the country’s GDP in 2014 to 20 per cent in 2019, is looking at China to be its major investor in this initiative. Fears abate, tourists return to Tunisia
February 22 (TravelAndy): International tourists are returning to Tunisia after a lull since the 2015 terrorist attacks that killed 60 visitors.
“We aim to receive eight million tourists this year with strong booking rates from European customers and other new customers,” reports quoted the country’s tourism minister Salma Loumi as saying. “The return of British tourist is very good signal for us.”
In 2015, a gun attack on a Sousse beach left 39 tourist dead and another attack at the Bardo National Museum in Tunis that killed 21. UK expects surge in Chinese tourists
November 15 (TravelAndy): Millennials are set to be the driving force of growth in Chinese travel to Scotland, it has been revealed.
Chinese visitor numbers to the UK are expected to rise by almost half, from 260,000 to 384,000, over the next five years, VisitBritain predicts. Scotland currently accounts for almost a fifth (17%) of all Chinese visitors to the UK.
The rise in visitors from China to Scotland and the UK is expected to be driven by the young adult traveller. Research shows that the average age of Chinese visitors to the UK is younger than the average age of all inbound travellers. In 2016, half of Chinese visitors to the UK were aged between 25 and 44. Cyclone strands thousands in Andaman
December 9 (TravelAndy): Severe depression caused above the Bay of Bengal has stranded approximately 1900 tourists in India’s popular tourist spot Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Havelock and Neil islands, in India’s union territory Andamans, are among the worst hit places.
