Perth Airport introduces sleeping pods for passengers
December 13 (TravelAndy): Perth Airport has introduced sleeping pods at its T1 zone, making it the first airport in Australia with this facility.
The airport has installed eight pods in collaboration with Smarte Carte and Finnish company GoSleep.
According to Perth Airport CEO Kevin Brown, the pods would be perfect for passengers who either arrived early or had some time between connecting flights, as they connected their flights in different ways, many with a short stopover. Emirates starts Dubai-Edinburgh flight
October 4 (TravelAndy): Emirates operated its inaugural flight service between Dubai and Edinburgh on October 1.
The Emirates Boeing 777-300ER touched down in the Scottish capital just before 3pm local time, making Edinburgh the airline’s second destination in Scotland and the eighth in the United Kingdom.
Emirates flight EK023, with a group of VIP guests and media on board, was welcomed by Edinburgh Airport with a water cannon salute.

Virgin starts direct flights between Perth & Hobart
September 21 (TravelAndy): Virgin Australia’s inaugural direct service from Perth in Western Australia to Hobart in Tasmania got under way earlier this week.

Perth-Hobart direct flight from September
July 6 (TravelAndy): A direct flight will start operating between Western Australia and Tasmania from September.
Virgin Australia will operate the flight.
The Perth to Hobart service will run three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Reduced fares for Monkey Mia and Carnarvon flights
June 30 (TravelAndy): People travelling to Monkey Mia and Carnarvon will benefit from discounted airfares offered by Regional Express (Rex), from July 2, 2018.
The Perth-Monkey Mia-Carnarvon air route will be serviced by Rex after a five-year agreement to provide regulated air services was signed between the state government and Rex earlier this year.
An innovative approach to reducing airfares on the route has resulted in Rex engaging with the owner of Shark Bay Airport (commonly referred to as Monkey Mia Airport), RAC; the Shire of Carnarvon, owner of Carnarvon Airport; and Perth Airport, to implement the Rex Community Fare scheme. Vietjet starts Hanoi-Singapore flights
May 4 (TravelAndy): The Vietnamese low cost carrier, Vietjet has started operating on the Singapore-Hanoi route from the Changi international airport.
The flight will be 2 hour 55 minutes both ways.

Oman Air to fly Salalah-Calicut direct from March 27
March 23 (TravelAndy): Oman Air, the national carrier of Oman, announced a new daily direct flight between Salalah, capital city of southern Oman’s Dhofar province and Calicut, Kerala, starting March 27, 2017.
The three-and-a-half hour flight will depart Salalah at 01.10 and arrive in Calicut at 06.20. The return flight will leave Calicut at 07.00 and arrive in Salalah at 09.15. (Also read: Oman Air to fly Muscat-Nairobi from March 27)

Bhutan Air to fly Bangkok-Bodh Gaya from Dec 4
November 25 (TravelAndy): Bhutan Air will start a new nonstop flight route between Bangkok and Bodh Gaya in India’s Bihar state, from December 4, 2016.
Twice-a-week flights will operate between Bangkok and Bodh Gaya on Sundays and Wednesdays, said the airline.

Air India to fly Delhi-Madrid direct from Dec 1
The thrice-a-week flights will operate between the two capitals on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, said the airline.
The flight will leave Delhi at 14.25 and arrive in Madrid at 20.20. On its return, it will depart from Madrid at 21.50 and reach Delhi at 11.10, the following day.
This route is set to become India’s first direct air connectivity to Spain.

GoAir to fly Chennai-Kolkata from Oct 12
September 28 (TravelAndy): India’s low cost carrier, GoAir is all set to start daily direct flights between Chennai and Kolkata, from October 12, 2016.
Direct flight on this route will depart daily, leaving Chennai at 11.00 and reaching Kolkata at 13.20. On its return, the flight will depart from Kolkata at 17.30 and arrive in Chennai at 19.45.

Google launches travel planning app
September 21 (TravelAndy): Google has launched a new app called Google Trips that will help users organise all travel information in a single place.
“Google Trips is a personalized tour guide in your pocket. Each trip contains key categories of information, including day plans, reservations, things to do, food & drink, and more, so you have everything you need at your fingertips. The entire app is available offline — simply tap the “Download” button under each trip to save it to your phone,” Google said in a blog post.
The app accumulates all flight, hotel, car and restaurant reservations information from the user’s Gmail inbox and stores it under the “reservation” tile in the app. Additionally, it recommends local attractions and eateries near the user’s place of visit.
