India launches adventure tourism guidelines
June 2 (TravelAndy): India’s tourism minister K. J. Alphons recently launched the government’s guidelines on adventure tourism.
These guidelines on Safety and Quality Norms for Adventure Tourism in India have been formulated along with the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) in an effort to make adventure sports safer.
Releasing the guidelines, the Tourism Minister said India has immense potential for adventure tourism ranging from the Himalayas to the coastal regions. Shri. K. J. Alphons said that these guidelines are a beginning to building adventure tourism in India and extended whole support to all stakeholders for developing this niche sector so as to tap the whole potential offered. The Minister also added that for India to be a well sought after destination, the facilities and support staff should be developed to global standards. First snow shoe adventure sports in Kashmir
January 23 (TravelAndy): India’s Jammu and Kashmir state hosted its first snow shoe championship today, at Gulmarg valley, said The Greater Kashmir.
Kashmir’s tourismdepartment and SnowShoe Federation of India arranged this event, to attract several adventure enthusiasts to the Himalayan valley.
“Snowshoe is relatively new activity in our part of the World. It is quite popular in Europe and USA both as recreational tourism as well as professional sports activity. Today we joined hands with SnowShoe Federation of India (SSFI) to organize an event at Gulmarg and we are delighted with the response,” said Mahmood Ahmad Shah, director of Kashmir tourism. Andhra Pradesh to start helicopter service in Tirupati
December 3 (TravelAndy): India’s Andhra Pradesh state is planning to introduce helicopter rides for tourists visiting the pilgrimage town Tirupati, said The Hindu.
The price for approximately 7-10 minutes ride is yet to be announced.

Motorised paragliding in Goa
November 18 (TravelAndy): India’s beach state, Goa has launched motorised paragliding on its Mandrem beach to woo more adventure enthusiasts.
A motorised paraglide is a two-seater flying vehicle, which allows a slow flight over land, facilitating panoramic view.

Hot air balloon rides back in Goa
October 20 (TravelAndy): India’s beach state Goa has re-launched the hot air balloon rides for tourists with the commencement of tourist season, this year.
At present, two hot air balloons will be operational, which will take off from Assolda in South Goa, said Goa tourism website.

Water sports galore at Tehri lake fest
October 1 (TravelAndy): India’s Uttarakhand state will host Tehri Festival at Koti colony on the eponymous lake on October 15 and 16.
The two-day festival will have adventure activities such as river rafting, canoeing, paragliding, parasailing and kayaking. Tourists can take part in all the activities and watch experts demonstrate their skills.

J&K organises ‘Climbathon’ in Kargil
August 28 (TravelAndy): In a venture to promote adventure tourism, India’s Jammu and Kashmir state has recently organised a trekking program in the state’s Kargil region, said reports.
A total of 40 national and international trekkers participated in the climbathon, which took place in Nun Kun Massif summit located in Kargil’s Suru valley.

Karnataka to start adventure tourism in Uttar Kannada
August 19 (TravelAndy): India’s Karnataka state is all set to develop its Uttar Kannada district as an adventure tourism destination, said The Times of India.
The state has plans to start water sports including rafting, kayaking, coracle ride, jacuzzi, water scooter, banana boats, para-motor, para-sailing and hand gliding in Kali river in Uttara Kannada district.

Krishna & Cauvery dams to become tourist hubs
August 8 (TravelAndy): India’s Karnataka state is planning to transform major dams along the Krishna and Cauvery basins into hubs for adventure tourism, said The Hindu.
The dam sites around Krishna and Cauvery, the prime rivers of the state, are full of natural resources including government lands, lush green forests, rivers, backwaters, hilly and mountainous terrains.

US: Breaks park welcomes rock climbers
June 24 (TravelAndy): Adventure enthusiasts in the US can now go rock climbing at the Breaks Interstate Park in Kentucky.
Breaks Interstate Park, located inside Jefferson National Forest, situated between the states of Kentucky and Virginia, has recently opened as an official rock climbing sport.

UP promotes Holipura as rural tourism hub
April 9 (TravelAndy): India’s Uttar Pradesh state is set to develop its Holipura village as a tourism hub, India Today said.
Holipura in Agra of Uttar Pradesh has the potential to attract tourists with its Chambal safaries and crocodile sanctuary. It can also become a destination for adventure tourism, said the state’s tourism officer Dinesh Kumar.

Ice-climbing event at Pahalgam
December 31 (TravelAndy): The north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir is holding an ice climbing event in Pahalgam, said reports.
The tourism department of the northern most state of India, in collaboration with J&K Mountaineering and Hiking Club, identified Aru valley and Chandanwari glaciers in Pahalgam for the event.
