Hunder in Ladakh, India, will leave you speechless
WHY I WENT
I was flying into Leh and staying in the region for six days (I had a wedding to attend). So, I didn’t have much time for acclimatisation. I had two day to spare before the wedding and the choice was between Pangong lake and Nubra valley (where Hunder desert is situated). The latter made sense because it was at a lower altitude than Leh and it decreased the chances of me getting ill with altitude sickness.
WHY YOU SHOULD GO
First, Hunder has the coolest out-of-the-world landscapes. It’s this cold desert of white sand surrounded by the incredible Karakoram mountains. Second, this is the only place in India where you get to see (and ride) the double-humped Bactrian camels.

Give slow travel a chance
Once you are back from a two-week trip to Europe, it feels good to tell people back home you saw six countries, doesn’t it?
But the part about the trip you’d rather not dwell on is that you could not spend more than an hour at the Louvre because you still had to see Eiffel Tower, the Montmartre and five other places by the end of the day. You also tend to skip the part about visiting St. Peter’s Basilica but not finding enough time to go to the Vatican Museum to see Sistine Chapel.
In fact, you realise later that you spent more time travelling from one place to another than taking in a particular place, especially if you were doing the trip with a tour company that promised you the “highlights” of Europe. Continue reading Give slow travel a chance
Popular Thailand island off limits for tourists
May 20 (TravelAndy): Thailand has closed its popular island tourist destination of Koh Tachai indefinitely to let it “recover” from the impact of tourism.
The white-sand beaches and waters teeming with marine life had been attracting far too many tourists and this has had an adverse impact on the local environment, feel the authorities.
Reports said a beach on the island that can officially accommodate only 70 people often sees hundreds of tourists crowding on it during the high tourist season.

Law against tourist harass on cards
May 11 (TravelAndy): The state government in India’s Uttar Pradesh state is planning to introduce a law that will make harassing tourists a punishable offence, said The Asian Age.
Tourists, especially foreigners, are often bothered by tourist guides, beggars and autorickshaw drivers among other people in and around tourist spots. The government wants to put an end to this because it feels this reflects badly on the image of the state.
“Foreign tourists, in particular, are not used to such behaviour and get upset about it. We have received feedback about this and are work towards solving the problem,” the report quoted a government official as saying. Continue reading Law against tourist harass on cards
