Discounts on Tigerair India-Singapore fares
July 8 (TravelAndy): Tigerair is offering 50 per cent discount fares on its flights to Singapore from Indian cities on the occasion of the city-state’s 50th Independence year.
Singapore Airlines holds the majority stake in Tigerair.

India: 12-language helpline for tourists
July 7, 2015 (TravelAndy): In an attempt to facilitate international tourists, India’s tourism ministry has announced a tourist helpline that would operate in 12 international languages.
Tourism minister Mahesh Sharma said yesterday that the service would be functional in two months.

SpiceJet increases ticket cancel fees
July 6 (TravelAndy): India-based budget airline SpiceJet has hiked booking cancellation charges for both domestic and international flights.
The cancellation charge for domestic flights has been raised to INR1,800 from INR1,500. For international flights, it is now INR 2,250, said the airline.
According to the latest revision, a passenger cancelling a ticket between two and 48 hours before take off has to pay INR 2,250, which is 50 per cent higher than earlier. A passenger cancelling between two and seven days will have to pay INR2,000, and someone cancelling seven to 30 days prior to travel will have to shell out INR 1,500. JetBlue starts New York-Havana flight
July 5 (TravelAndy): American airline JetBlue started flights between New York and Cuba’s capital Havana on Friday, said reports.
After the US government eased travel restrictions to Cuba, JetBlue is the first airline to charter direct flights from the John F. Kennedy airport in New York to Havana’s Jose Marti International Airport.
The weekly flight takes off from New York at 12noon and reach Havana at 3.30pm local time. The return flight leaves Havana at 4.30pm and arrives at New York at 8pm. Continue reading JetBlue starts New York-Havana flight
First private airport in Saudi Arabia opens
July 4 (TravelAndy): Saudi Arabia’s King Salman has inaugurated the kingdom’s its first private airport in the holy city of Medina to facilitate Hajj pilgrims from across the globe, said reports.
Approximately two million pilgrims visit the cities of Mecca and Medina every year for Hajj, which is scheduled to take place in September this year.

Barcelona: Freeze on tourist accommodation
July 3 (TravelAndy): Barcelona’s newly-elected Leftist mayor has put a freeze on licensing new tourist accommodation in an effort to stop it from ending up “like Venice”, said reports.
The Spanish city that hosted the 1992 Summer Olympics is among Europe’s most visited places. It saw 7.5 million international visitors last year.

Travel light and save on SpiceJet
July 1 (TravelAndy): Indian low-cost airline SpiceJet has announced that it will offer discounts to passengers who travel light.
Passengers without check-in luggage will save INR200 on one-way flights and up to INR1,000 on return flights.

AirAsia announces Bengaluru-Bangkok flight
July 1 (TravelAndy): Low-cost airline AirAsia has announced direct flights between Bengaluru and Bangkok from September 1.
The airline will fly five times a week on this route with one way all-in fares starting from INR3,999.

Asia Miles rains bonus miles for members
June 29 (TravelAndy): Asia Miles is offering bonus miles to its members travelling between India and Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific and Dragonair.

Baggage breather for budget fliers
June 28 (TravelAndy): The Indian government on Saturday rejected a proposal by budget airlines operating in the country to charge for checked-in baggage.
Passengers are now allowed to carry check-in luggage of up to 15kg for free.
“We have got the proposal from low-cost flights to charge for check-in baggage. We have rejected it and there will be no consideration at the Aviation Ministry level. Indian Railways plans one-stop travel shop
June 28 (TravelAndy): Indian Railways has announced to open a single-window solution to all travel-related issues for customers, reports said.
This facility will come up at Connaught Place in New Delhi.
Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), the Indian Railways subsidiary that handles the catering, tourism and online ticketing, said the facility would take care of all rail, land transport, air tour packages for both domestic and international travellers.
