Air India seeks US customs check in Delhi, Mumbai
June 12 (TravelAndy): India’s flagship airline Air India is seeking to have all immigration, customs and agriculture requirements for US-bound passengers at the Delhi and Mumbai airports, reports said.
If this works out, passengers will be able to simply collect their bags and walk off like domestic fliers after landing in the US.
This facility is already available at the airports in Dublin and Abu Dhabi.
India: Railways tie up with airlines
June 11 (TravelAndy): Passengers on waiting list of Indian Railways could now choose to fly to their destinations by converting their train tickets into flight ones at a competitive rate.
Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), the Indian Railways subsidiary that handles the catering, tourism and online ticketing, recently signed a deal with GoAir to this effect. Talks are on to include SpiceJet in this scheme too.
This facility is applicable for passengers who book their tickets at least three days before their travel date. Such passengers, if wait-listed, will receive an email from IRCTC and can cancel their unconfirmed tickets to buy flight tickets for the date of travel or one day prior to it. Air India offers fares from INR1777
June 10 (TravelAndy): Indian flagship airline Air India on Tuesday announced all-inclusive fares from INR1,777 for it’s domestic network.
The sale is on till June 12 and the travel dates are from July 1 to September 30.

Kolkata-Colombo direct flight from June 17
June 9 (TravelAndy): Sri Lankan government-owned low-cost carrier Mihin Lanka is set to start direct flights between Colombo and Kolkata from June 17.
The airline will operate three flights a week – on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Air Pegasus connects Bangalore to Kadapa
June 8 (TravelAndy): Low-cost carrier Air Pegasus started operations to Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh from Bangalore on Sunday.
The airline is the only carrier connecting the Kadapa airport at the moment and it will fly thrice a week.

Kolkata-Dhaka-Agartala bus cuts travel time
June 7 (TravelAndy): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina flagged off a bus service connecting the Indian states of West Bengal and Tripura via Dhaka on Saturday.
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee was also present at the event in the Bangladesh capital.

Saigon’s first capsule hotel woos backpackers
June 6 (TravelAndy): The first capsule hotel in Ho Chi Minh City (former Saigon), Vietnam’s capital, is trying to woo backpackers and budget travellers.
Each 2.5sqm “capsule” of Hotel Kaiteki is air-conditioned with a bunk bed and a safe. It provides ear plugs and curtains to cut off outside sound and light. Television and Wi-Fi are available in each capsule. Toilets are shared.

June 5 (TravelAndy): India-based airline IndiGo has launched the 6E Pass that relieves passengers of the worry of ticket price fluctuations.
These passes are pre-paid virtual coupons valid for multiple flights.

Air Asia to fly Kuala Lumpur-Goa
June 4 (TravelAndy): In what could be a major boost to tourism in Goa, Air Asia has announced to start flights between the Indian beach haven and Kuala Lumpur.
The low-cost carrier will operate three flights a week on this route from August 27, the airline has announced.

Air India announces Delhi-Colombo flight
June 3 (TravelAndy): India’s flagship carrier Air India will start operating direct flights between New Delhi and the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo from June 15.
All-inclusive return airfares will start from INR15,555, the airline said.
Except Wednesdays, the flight will depart every day at noon and reach Colombo at 3.35pm. On Wednesdays, it will depart at 1.30pm and arrive in the Sri Lankan capital at 5.15pm.
SpiceJet offers fares from INR1299
June 2 (TravelAndy): India-based budget airline SpiceJet is offering one-way fares from INR1,299 on select routes till the midnight of June 4.
The sale is for the travel period between June 20 and July 31, 2015.

Wi-Fi in Indian skies likely soon
May 31 (TravelAndy): Indian authorities might soon allow Wi-Fi on airplanes. Reports said an announcement to this effect is likely to be made shortly.
“The department of telecommunication has already said (informally) the proposal is possible to implement,” The Times of India quoted an aviation official as saying.
