Glass roof train on Vizag-Araku route
April 18 (TravelAndy): To delight passengers travelling from Vishakhapatnam to Araku Valley in India’s Andhra Pradesh state, Indian Railways launched a special glass top coach, which will provide panoramic view of the route.
Known as Vistadome, this air-conditioned coach attached to the Visakhapatnam-Kirandul passenger train, claims to be a first-of-its-kind in Indian Railways.

Festival boost for Andhra tourism
January 4 (TravelAndy): In a bid to promote tourism, South Indian state of Andhra Pradesh is getting ready to host a series of festivals along the eastern coast of river Godavari.
The three major festivals include, Kakinada Beach Festival scheduled at the NTR Beach in Vakalapudi from January 12, 2017. Similarly, a four-day Konaseema Festival will be hosted on the banks of the Godavari at Muramalla from February 22 and the three-day ‘Manyam Jatara’ in the Agency area from March 26, said The Hindu.
“These festivals provide a platform to display the rich culture of the district. Food stalls will serve exclusive cuisine of local flavours, while the handicrafts and handlooms of the local artisans will also be on display,”said N. Andhra Pradesh to start helicopter service in Tirupati
December 3 (TravelAndy): India’s Andhra Pradesh state is planning to introduce helicopter rides for tourists visiting the pilgrimage town Tirupati, said The Hindu.
The price for approximately 7-10 minutes ride is yet to be announced.

Krishna Pushkaralu fest from August 12
August 1 (TravelAndy): India’s youngest state Telangana will celebrate its first Krishna Pushkaralu, the holy festival along the river Krishna, from August 12.
This festival is celebrated along the bank of the river once every 12 years. It continues for 12 days at a stretch. Krishna Pushkaralu is celebrated along the course of the river in the staes of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana.

Helicopter tourism in Vizag from October
July 25 (TravelAndy): India’s port city Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh state is set to start helicopter-l tourism from October, said The New Indian Express.
Vuda park in Vishakhapatnam has been identified as the helipad site as well as ticket booking centre.

AP to host nine tourism festivals in 2016
December 21 (TravelAndy): India’s state of Andhra Pradesh is planning a series of festival in 2016, in order to attract more tourists to the state.
A total of nine tourism festivals are on the cards, reported the The Times of India.
These include Buddha Jayanthi festival at Amaravathi and Nagarjuna Konda, Flamingo festival at Nellore, Lepakshi festival at Ananthapur, Rayalaseema food and cultural festival at Tirupati, Visakha Utsav in Vizag, Kakinada Beach festival, shopping festival at Vijayawada, Konaseemaprabalu festival in East Godavari district and tribal festival in Araku, confirmed the tourism department of Andhra Pradesh. From lighthouse to tourist attraction
October 14 (TravelAndy): The Indian government is chalking out a plan to transform 78 lighthouses across India, into tourism centres.
The identified lighthouses for this are located in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, said an official statement.
There are plans to using land adjacent to the light houses to develop hotels, resorts, viewing galleries, maritime museums and heritage museums, adventure sports facilities, thematic restaurants, souvenir shops, laser shows, spa and rejuvenation centres, amphitheatres and other facilities to attract tourists. Tourism plans for Nellore
October 13 (TravelAndy): India’s Andhra Pradesh state has decided to develop its Nellore district as a coastal tourism circuit, said The Hindu.
This initiative is a part of Swadesh Darshan scheme started by the Union government. Under this scheme, tourist circuits and heritage spots are beautified and renovated.

Andhra plans monastery boulevard
July 31 (TravelAndy): In an attempt to attract international tourists to its state capital Amaravati, Indian state Andhra Pradesh is planning to set up a monastery boulevard similar to Bihar’s Bodh Gaya, said reports.
Chief minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu discussed the setting up of monastery boulevard in a meeting held on Tuesday.

Godavari Kumbh Mela begins
July 14 (TravelAndy): Godavari Pushkaram, touted as the Kumbh Mela of South India, begins on Tuesday. The festival takes place every 12 years.
The “mela”, meaning fair, will be celebrated in the two South Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It will continue for 12 days.
