Kolkata-Khulna-Dhaka bus starts
April 9 (TravelAndy): To facilitate travel between India and Bangladesh, a Kolkata-Khulna-Dhaka bus service was flagged off from Kolkata yesterday.
This is a part of several initiatives being taken to strengthen bilateral relations and provide better tourism, road and rail connectivity for citizens of both India and Bangladesh. (Also read: Kolkata budget travel guide)

Tourism boost for beach town Digha
March 3 (TravelAndy): The popular beach town of Digha in India’s West Bengal state is set to be developed as an international tourist destination, said reports.
The state government has planned to introduce cable cars and a toy train track along the coast from Digha to Udaypur on the West Bengal-Odisha border.Additionally, a 20km sea-front driveway between Digha and Mandarmani is also on the cards.

Kalimpong to get tourism facelift
February 17 (TravelAndy): In an attempt to enhance tourism, India’s West Bengal state is looking to construct a mall area in Kalimpong, a hill station in northern part of the state, said reports.
Similar to the popular mall in Darjeeling in West Bengal, Kalimpong too will soon have a mall of its own, which will allow visitors to enjoy panoramic view of the hill town.

Full-service Zoom Air takes flight
February 12 (TravelAndy): Zoom Air operated its inaugural flight from New Delhi to Durgapur in West Bengal today.
The full-service airline is scheduled to start regular commercial operations between Delhi and Durgapur via Kolkata from February 15, said reports.
The airline will have daily multiple direct flights from it’s New Delhi hub to Kolkata and Mumbai. It also will have daily flights between Kolkata and Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, the airline said on its website. Continue reading Full-service Zoom Air takes flight
India: Special train for religious tourism
January 18 (TravelAndy): Indian Railways will introduce a train for religious tourism, which will start running February 17, 2017.
The train will start and end at Guwahati in Assam and cover religious sites in West Bengal and Odisha states.

Poush Mela to be 3-day affair: Green body
November 10 (TravelAndy): The National Green Tribunal has ordered the Poush Mela festival, celebrated at Shantiniketan in east India’s West Bengal state, to be concluded within three days of its commencement.
This order has been passed to control the growing pollution left by the stall owners and visitors, which harm the environment of the place in a significant way, said The Times of India.

West Bengal launches tourism app
July 28 (TravelAndy): To make India’s West Bengal state more accessible to travellers, the state has recently launched a tourism app named ‘Experience Bengal’.
The app will provide all tourism related information along with facilities including maps and directions.
Additionally, the app will update a visitor about various districts of West Bengal and guide them about activities to be taken up. Fish tourism plan in the Sunderbans
July 19 (TravelAndy): To attract both domestic and international travelers, India’s West Bengal state is planning a first-of-its-kind fish tourism in its Sunderban region, said reports.
The Sunderban forests are home to the famous Royal Bengal tigers.

Tourism plan for Jungle mahal
March 28 (TravelAndy): India’s West Bengal state is mulling major tourism activities in and around the districts of Bankura, Purulia and West Midnapore, The Statesman said.
This region, popularly known as the Jungle Mahal, will shortly get cable car rides for tourists.

Poush Mela begins from Dec 24
December 22 (TravelAndy): Shantiniketan in east India’s West Bengal state is set to host its traditional Poush Mela festival from December 24.
The festival will continue for three days and conclude on December 26.

From lighthouse to tourist attraction
October 14 (TravelAndy): The Indian government is chalking out a plan to transform 78 lighthouses across India, into tourism centres.
The identified lighthouses for this are located in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, said an official statement.
There are plans to using land adjacent to the light houses to develop hotels, resorts, viewing galleries, maritime museums and heritage museums, adventure sports facilities, thematic restaurants, souvenir shops, laser shows, spa and rejuvenation centres, amphitheatres and other facilities to attract tourists. West Bengal plans tourism hub
September 24 (TravelAndy): The government of the West Bengal state in India has decided to set up a tourism hub at Gajoldoba in Siliguri, north Bengal, said reports.
Three roads from Gajoldoba are being connected to the national highway to facilitate tourist arrival.
