IndiGo connects Kannur to three Indian cities
Gurgaon (TAN): IndiGo has announced to operate daily non-stop return flights from Kannur to Chennai, Hyderabad, and Hubli from this month.
Kannur International Airport, all set to become IndiGo’s 67th destination, is the fourth international airport in Kerala, the only state in the country with four international airports.
IndiGo will start the operations from January 25, 2019.

Karnataka to host bird festival from Jan 5-7
December 7 (TravelAndy): India’s Karnataka state is going to host ‘Hakki Habba’, the popular bird festival at Daroji Soth Bear Sanctuary in Hampi village, from Jan 5- 7, 2017, said reports.
This three-day festival is expected to draw several bird watchers, wildlife photographers and tourists of all walks.

Go scuba diving in Karnataka this winter
October 24 (TravelAndy): India’s Karnataka state in going to start underwater sports off Netrani Island, situated off the beaches of Uttara Kannada district, said The New Indian Express.
Adventure activities like Scuba diving and snorkeling are slated to begin in Netrani from Decemebr this year.

Cauvery protest hits tourism in Karnataka
September 13 (TravelAndy): Following protests regarding the river Cauvery, tourism has taken a blow in several cities including Bengaluru and Mysuru in India’s Karnataka state.
After India’s top court directed Karnataka state to share a fixed volume of Cauvery river water with its neighbouring state Tamil Nadu, protest against the decision erupted across the state.

Karnataka to start adventure tourism in Uttar Kannada
August 19 (TravelAndy): India’s Karnataka state is all set to develop its Uttar Kannada district as an adventure tourism destination, said The Times of India.
The state has plans to start water sports including rafting, kayaking, coracle ride, jacuzzi, water scooter, banana boats, para-motor, para-sailing and hand gliding in Kali river in Uttara Kannada district.

Krishna & Cauvery dams to become tourist hubs
August 8 (TravelAndy): India’s Karnataka state is planning to transform major dams along the Krishna and Cauvery basins into hubs for adventure tourism, said The Hindu.
The dam sites around Krishna and Cauvery, the prime rivers of the state, are full of natural resources including government lands, lush green forests, rivers, backwaters, hilly and mountainous terrains.

Reports said the move came following some accidents involving people taking selfies.

Surfing contest at Karnataka beach
May 15 (TravelAndy): Are you a surfer? It’s time you booked a ticket to South India’s Karnataka state.
To promote adventure tourism, the state tourism authorities have decided host the ‘Indian Open for Surfing’ at Mangaluru from May 27 to 29.

Malpe beach water sports festival from May 7
April 25 (TravelAndy): India’s Karnataka state is set to attract tourists to its Malpe beach in Udupi district by organizing a water sports festival on May 7 and 8, said The Hindu.
Events will include jet skiing, swimming competition, surfing, kayaking, and speed boating along with boat ride to the nearby St. Mary’s Island.

Helicopter boost to Udupi tourism
February 16 (TravelAndy): A helicopter service has been started yesterday to promote tourism in the pilgrimage sites of Karnataka’s Udupi, The Hindu said.
Initially, the service, launched in Udupi’s Adi Udupi helipad, will continue for two weeks. Depending on its popularity, the service might be extended.

Karnataka: Copter-tourism on the cards
January 24 (TravelAndy): In a bid to attract international tourists, Karnataka is planning to launch helicopter tours for its visitors, TOI said.
The state government of Karnataka has already identified certain tourism circuits that have poor transport connectivity. These include Coastal, Heritage and Malnad circuits comprising major tourist and pilgrimage centres.
“With the increase in foreign and domestic tourists to Karnataka every year and analyzing the age and income profiles of tourists, there’s immense potential for helicopter tourism. With improvement in connectivity, we hope to see a rise in their visits,” Pradeep Singh Kharola, additional chief secretary of the tourism department told TOI. Tourism gallery to come up on river Cauvery
January 7 (TravelAndy): Karnataka is set to build a tourism gallery on the Cauvery river in Mysuru, said reports.
It will inform the visitors about the river’s origin, history, significance, its influence on agriculture and the threats it is undergoing.
