BUS picJune 7 (TravelAndy): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina flagged off a bus service connecting the Indian states of West Bengal and Tripura via Dhaka on Saturday.

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee was also present at the event in the Bangladesh capital.

The new bus route has significantly shrunk the road distance between the two Indian states to around 500km with one not having to go around Bangladesh.

The new route via Bangladesh is expected to give tourism a bit boost.

Along Dhaka-Shillong-Guwahati bus route was also flagged off on the occasion.

“Bus services flagged off bring our nations closer and enable greater people-to-people contact,” Tweeted Modi.
