October 31 (TravelAndy): In order to provide hygienic and quality food to train passengers, Indian Railways has launched e-catering service in 45 stations and 1,516 trains through Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC).
IRCTC is a subsidiary of the Indian Railways and handles the catering, tourism and online ticketing operations of the railways.
Christened ‘Food on Track’, this service can be availed at the official website www.ecatering.irctc.co.in, calling 0120-2383892-99 or the toll-free number 18001034139. Passengers can also pre-order their meals by sending an SMS to 139.
The meal will be delivered at passenger’s seat at select stations. Indian Railways authorised personnel will execute the delivery.
Passengers can choose to pay online or avail cash-on-delivery options for their pre-booked meals, said a government release.
Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals are available. An electronic receipt will be given to the passenger on payment for their meals.
The stations covered under this scheme are Howrah, Sealdah, Guwahati, New Jalpaiguri, Patna, Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam, Mughal Sarai, Kanpur Central, Lucknow Junction, Varanasi, Jaipur, Bilaspur, Kharagpur, Allahabad, Lucknow (NR), Gorakhpur, Anand Vihar Terminal, H. Nizamuddin, New Delhi, Delhi, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Secunderabad, Tirupati, Vijayawada, Chennai Central, Chennai Egmore, Ernakulam Junction, Calicut, Madurai Junction, Thrissur, Tiruvananthapuram Central, Bengaluru City, Yesvantpur, Nagpur, Pune, Agra Cantonment, Gwalior, Jhansi, Bhopal, Ahemdabad, Mumbai Central, Surat and Vadodara.
Passengers travelling on all train passing through these destinations can make use of the facility.
