Auli, a popular skiing destination in the north Indian state of Uttarakhand, will be thrown open to tourists as the mountain carnival unfolds in February 2016.

Apart from Auli, carnivals will be organised in Tehri in November and in the hills of Mussorie in December.

The tourism department plans to put traditional clothes and cuisine on display for tourists from around the globe.

“We have finalised the plan for Tehri festival to be held in November, Mussoorie in December and Auli carnival for February 2016. These events will be held mainly to promote the winter tourism in the state,” AK Dwivedi, additional director of state tourism department told Hindustan Times.

This initiative is a part of making tourists choose Uttarakhand over Shimla and Manali in Himachal Pradesh, added Dwivedi.
