Poush Mela begins from Dec 24

Logo squareDecember 22 (TravelAndy): Shantiniketan in east India’s West Bengal state is set to host its traditional Poush Mela festival fromĀ December 24.

The festival will continue for three days and conclude onĀ December 26.

The fair displays indigenous handicraft including terracotta work and hand-stitched garments. It also includes food stalls that serve local and seasonal fare.

Skits and musical performances are also staged by the local residents and educational institutes.

The local Baul community performs their traditional music on the fair ground.

Home to Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s ashram and university, Shantiniketan is a popular travel destination for both domestic and international tourists.
