Somnath-Puri special train from May 13

rp_IMG_2383-300x30011.jpgApril 29 (TravelAndy): A pair of special trains will run between the pilgrimage destinations of Somnath in west Indian state of Gujarat and Puri, situated on the eastern coast of the country in Odisha.
Train No. 09207 Somnath – Puri (Weekly) Special train will leave Somnath at 07.20 every Saturday and reach Puri at 10.05  the next Monday from May 13 to July 1, 2017.
In the return direction, Train No.09208 Puri – Somnath (Weekly) Special train will leave Puri at 19.45 every Wednesday and reach Somnath at 21.00 hrs the next Friday from May 17 to July 5, 2017.
The train will have AC 2 tier, AC 3 tier, sleeper class and general second class coaches.
The train will halt at Veraval, Keshod, Junagadh, Jetalsar, Virpur, Gondal, Bhakti Nagar, Rajkot, Wankaner, Surendra Nagar, Ahmedabad, Nadiad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Nandurbar, Amalner, Jalgaon, Bhusaval, Malkapur, Shegaon, Akola, Badnera Jn, Wardha Jn, Nagpur, Gondia Jn, Raj Nandgaon, Durg, Raipur, Mahasamund, Kariar Road, Kantabanji, Titlagarh, Kesinga, Rayagada, Vizianagaram, Ichchapuram, Brahmapur, Balugaon and Khurda Road stations in both directions.
This will be the only train running between Somnath and Puri.

India: Special train for religious tourism

The train will start and end at Guwahati in Assam and cover religious sites in West Bengal and Odisha states.

This train, which is called the Astha Circuit Tourists train, is aimed at facilitating pilgrimage for Indians at an affordable price. Continue Reading →

Amarnath yatra resumes from Pahalgam

Logo squareJuly 18 (TravelAndy): After a week-long suspension following the violence in Kashmir on July 9, the Amarnath Yatra resumed from its traditional Pahalgam route today, said reports.

Over the past week, the Amarnath pilgrims were taking the Baltal route.

Helicopter boost to Udupi tourism

rp_Helicopter-300x2251-300x225-300x225.jpgFebruary 16 (TravelAndy): A helicopter service has been started yesterday to promote tourism in the pilgrimage sites of Karnataka’s Udupi, The Hindu said.

Initially, the service, launched in Udupi’s Adi Udupi helipad, will continue for two weeks. Depending on its popularity, the service might be extended.

Visitors can now board a helicopter from Mangaluru and reach the pilgrim destinations in Udupi or Kollur. Continue Reading →

Badrinath closes gates for this year

Logo squareNovember 20 (TravelAndy): The Badrinath temple situated on the Himalayas in India’s Uttarakhand state closed its portals for this year on November 17, said reports.

Extreme weather conditions and snowfall prompts the popular shrine to close its gates every year during winter.

Kerala chalks temple tourism plan

Logo squareSeptember 26 (TravelAndy): In an effort to attract pilgrim tourists, the state of Kerala in India has decided to develop the  Ayyarvattom Maha Sudarshana temple in its Kozhikode district. The project kicks off from October 3.

The work undertaken by Kerala tourism include construction of guest rooms for travellers, improving basic amenities and beautification of the place.

This temple, situated in Eravannur region of Kozhikode district, is the the only temple of Lord Maha Sudarshana in India.  Continue Reading →
