India: Special train for religious tourism
January 18 (TravelAndy): Indian Railways will introduce a train for religious tourism, which will start running February 17, 2017.
The train will start and end at Guwahati in Assam and cover religious sites in West Bengal and Odisha states.

Amarnath yatra resumes from Pahalgam
July 18 (TravelAndy): After a week-long suspension following the violence in Kashmir on July 9, the Amarnath Yatra resumed from its traditional Pahalgam route today, said reports.
Over the past week, the Amarnath pilgrims were taking the Baltal route.

Applications open for Mansarovar Yatra, 2016
March 19 (TravelAndy): The online process of application to take part in this year’s Mansarovar yatra has begun.
Tourists can apply through the official Kailash Mansarovar Yatra website.

Helicopter boost to Udupi tourism
February 16 (TravelAndy): A helicopter service has been started yesterday to promote tourism in the pilgrimage sites of Karnataka’s Udupi, The Hindu said.
Initially, the service, launched in Udupi’s Adi Udupi helipad, will continue for two weeks. Depending on its popularity, the service might be extended.

First pilgrimage train chugs out of Amritsar
January 4 (TravelAndy): Punjab has flagged off its first Tirth Yatra train from Amritsar to Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazoor Sahib at Nanded in Maharashtra, said reports.
This special train has 18 coaches and can accommodate 1,080 passengers.

Badrinath closes gates for this year
November 20 (TravelAndy): The Badrinath temple situated on the Himalayas in India’s Uttarakhand state closed its portals for this year on November 17, said reports.
Extreme weather conditions and snowfall prompts the popular shrine to close its gates every year during winter.

Air India connects Bhubaneswar & Varanasi
November 9 (TravelAndy): Air India started direct flights between Bhubaneswar in Odisha and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh from Sunday.
This is the first direct flight between the two cities.

Kerala chalks temple tourism plan
September 26 (TravelAndy): In an effort to attract pilgrim tourists, the state of Kerala in India has decided to develop the Ayyarvattom Maha Sudarshana temple in its Kozhikode district. The project kicks off from October 3.
The work undertaken by Kerala tourism include construction of guest rooms for travellers, improving basic amenities and beautification of the place.
