Vietnam’s Hanoi named cheapest Asian city for backpackers
Hanoi (TAN): Tourism price index website Price of Travel has named the Vietnam capital as the cheapest Asian city for backpackers.
The low costs attract a large number of holiday-makers to Hanoi.
However, experts said, sustainable tourism development requires much more. Diverse and quality products and services are what keep tourists staying longer, spending more money and returning to the city. Discussion on future of tourism at China meet
October 30 (TravelAndy): The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and the People’s Government of Guilin, China held the 12th UNWTO/PATA Forum on Tourism Trends and Outlook on 25-27 October 2018. This year’s edition – ‘The Future of Tourism: Road to 2030´, aligns with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“Digital advances provide opportunities to tourism in order to enhance inclusiveness, community empowerment and efficient resource management to achieve the SDGs. Yet to do so, we need to better understand where tourism is heading so we can adopt the adequate policies and business strategies.” said UNWTO Executive Director Shanzhong Zhu at the event.
International tourist arrivals in Asia and the Pacific grew 6% in 2017 to reach a total of 323 million. Rapid economic growth in emerging economy markets, rising air connectivity, more affordable travel and enhanced visa facilitation continue to fuel tourism from within and outside the region. Asian destinations earned USD 390 billion in international tourism receipts in 2017, 29% of the global figure, a share that has steadily increased from 17% in 2000. China, the world´s top spender in international tourism and fourth largest destination, has been one of the main drivers behind this growth. Norwegian to fly London-Singapore from Sep 28
April 27 (TravelAndy): Budget airline Norwegian will start flights between London and Singapore from September 28, 2017, the airline said.
With this, the airline’s growing low-cost long-haul network expands to Asia.

Istanbul-Dhaka railway route on the table
March 21 (TravelAndy): The proposal for an Istanbul to Dhaka railway route was discussed at a two-day meeting attended by the representatives of more than 11 countries in New Delhi last week.
The meeting on “Strengthening Railway Transport Connectivity in South and South West Asia” was organised by United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in co-ordination with Organization for Cooperation between Railways (OSJD) and the Indian railway ministry.
Discussions were held to strengthen the rail transport and provide connectivity to the countries in South Asia and South East Asia. Among the countries that took part in the meeting are Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Iran, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey and India. AirAsia X to start US flights from June 28
February 16 (TravelAndy): AirAsia X will start flights between Kuala Lumpur and Honolulu, in Hawaii, US, from June 28.
The budget airline is offering all-in one way inaugural fares from MYR899. Premium flatbed fares start from MYR2,999.
