Glasgow from Edinburgh on an electric ScotRail train

Edinburgh (TAN): Scottish railway company ScotRail has launched the first-ever Hitachi class 385 electric train on the Edinburgh to Glasgow route that runs through the town of Shotts.

The electric train was introduced on the route after electrification of the line that cost Network Rail GBP 160 million to complete.

“We are delighted to be introducing the first Hitachi class 385 electric train on the Shotts line and we thank customers for their patience during the improvement works,” ScotRail Chief Operating Officer Angus Thom said.

“The class 385 trains have proven to be very popular and this is another important step forward for ScotRail as we provide customers with a vastly improved service, including more seats and improved journey times,” he added.

The electrification could help make trips faster, and improve services for passengers.

Over 50 class 385 trains have been deployed on seven separate routes, six of which include Glasgow Queen Street-Edinburgh via Falkirk High, Glasgow Queen Street-Edinburgh via Falkirk Grahamston, Glasgow Queen Street/Edinburgh-Stirling, Dunblane, Alloa, Cathcart Circle, Glasgow Central-Newton, and Edinburgh to North Berwick/Dunbar routes.

More such trains will be introduced in the approaching weeks, the company said.

Schedule for May will bring more options for passengers to travel on the electric trains.
ScotRail launched its first customer service as well.
