June 28 (TravelAndy): The Indian government on Saturday rejected a proposal by budget airlines operating in the country to charge for checked-in baggage.
Passengers are now allowed to carry check-in luggage of up to 15kg for free.
“We have got the proposal from low-cost flights to charge for check-in baggage. We have rejected it and there will be no consideration at the Aviation Ministry level. We will not want to put this burden on passengers,” Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma told PTI.
The minister, however, said he would encourage the airlines to provide incentives to passengers who travel light.
