July 26 (TravelAndy): In order to attract more tourists during the monsoon season, India’s Maharashtra state is about to start ‘Mumbai Darshan’ tours in the state capital.
Focus on fort tourism in Maharashtra
May 23 (TravelAndy): India’s western state of Maharashtra will equip some of its royal forts with facilities that would attract tourists, said The Times of India.
Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation has shortlisted five forts for development — Ramshej fort in Nashik, Harihar in Trimbakeshwar, Ankai Tankai near Yeola, Salher and Mulher near Satana.
The infrastructure to be introduced in and around each fort are a facilitation centre, tourists’ study centre, washrooms, restaurants, gift and local handicraft centre, parking, lodging and electrification. Continue reading Focus on fort tourism in Maharashtra
Safe selfie awareness drive in Maharashtra
May 4 (TravelAndy): Stay safe while taking selfies. That’s what the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) is trying to teach people visiting tourist spots in the west Indian state.
The move comes following incidents of people getting injured or even killed while taking selfies.
Some months ago, a teenaged girl was swept away while taking a selfie at Bandra in Mumbai and a man who jumped in to save her drowned as well. Again, a group of youngsters nearly died while taking a selfie on a cliff in the Sahyadris. Continue reading Safe selfie awareness drive in Maharashtra
Coal India launches mine tourism
April 20 (TravelAndy): This summer, travellers can choose to explore coal mines, as Coal India Limited (CIL) is launching eco-mine tourism for visitors, said The Hindu BusinessLine.
CIL has decided to promote two of its active mines, as tourist attractions. The mines to be thrown open for public visit include the ones located in Saoner and Gondegaon in west India’s Maharashtra state.
CIL’s subsidiary, Western Coalfield Ltd has created a 15 acre eco-park between Saoner and Gondegaon mines. Tourists can explore the depths of Saoner’s underground mine and watch the opencast mine proceedings at Gondegaon, from a distance. Continue reading Coal India launches mine tourism
