July 6 (TravelAndy): Ladakh in India’s Jammu and Kashmir state is set to host the traditional Hemis festival on the monastery premises.

This is one of the most popular festivals of Ladakh and will be celebrated on July 14 and 15.

The event takes place inside the 400-year-old Hemis monastery, a major tourist attraction in this region.

The festival demonstrates the culture and heritage of the Drukpa lineage in Central Asia.

The highlight of the festival includes the traditional mask dance performances by monks of the Drukpa Order, reflecting the triumph of good over evil.

Additionally, this year, the Hemis festival will act as the precursor to the Naropa Festival, another major festival in Ladakh, which is slated to be held in September, 2016.
