May 28 (TravelAndy): Indian Railways launched a direct train between Kamakhya in Assam and Katra in Vaishno Devi in north India’s Jammu and Kashmir state.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the train from Shillong yesterday. It is initially scheduled to operate on a weekly basis.
The train will cover its 2,605km in approximately 53 hours. The train will run through the Indian states of Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir.
The introduction of this train will encourage tourism between two of India’s most popular pilgrimages.
It will also create a direct connection between Jammu and Kashmir and India’s Northeast.
