January 5 (TravelAndy): To provide all-year connectivity to the tourist hotspot of Leh-Ladakh, India is set to build the longest road tunnel through the Zojila pass in Jammu and Kashmir, said reports.

Every winter between December and April, the national highway connecting Srinagar-Kargil-Leh remains closed due to severe weather conditions.

When the Zojila tunnel becomes operational, Leh-Ladakh will have all-weather connectivity. The tunnel is expected to be ready within seven years.

Apart from facilitating winter livelihood of the region, the 9km tunnel is expected to encourage winter tourism in Ladakh.

Zojila, situated at an altitude of 11,516 feet, is the world’s fourth-highest motorable pass.
