Popular Thailand island off limits for tourists
May 20 (TravelAndy): Thailand has closed its popular island tourist destination of Koh Tachai indefinitely to let it “recover” from the impact of tourism.
The white-sand beaches and waters teeming with marine life had been attracting far too many tourists and this has had an adverse impact on the local environment, feel the authorities.
Reports said a beach on the island that can officially accommodate only 70 people often sees hundreds of tourists crowding on it during the high tourist season.

8 low-cost airlines form Value Alliance
May 18 (TravelAndy): Eight Asian low-lost airlines have come together to form Value Alliance, a common platform where travellers will shortly be able to book air tickets.
The eight airlines in this alliance are Cebu Pacific (Philippines), Jeju Air (South Korea), Nok Air (Thailand), Scoot (Singapore), Nok Scoot, Tigerair Australia, Tigerair Singapore and Vanilla Air (Japan).

AirAsia India offers discounted tickets
May 17 (TravelAndy): AirAsia India has announced a 50% discount on air fares on domestic and select foreign routes, effective on booking done within May 18, midnight.
The discount will be valid for a travel period of August 1 to November 30, 2016.

Alliance Air to fly Hyderabad-Jabalpur-Bhopal
May 17 (TravelAndy): Alliance Air, a wholly owned subsidiary of India’s flagship carrier Air India, will fly from Hyderabad to Jabalpur and Bhopal from May 24, said reports.
Four flights a week will operate on this route on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Goa’s Aguada Jail to become tourist spot
May 16 (TravelAndy): Aguada Jail, located in south India’s coastal state Goa, is soon going to become a tourists destination, said reports.
The jail, which is situated by the Arabian Sea, is no longer operational and the inmates have been shifted to Colavela jail.

Surfing contest at Karnataka beach
May 15 (TravelAndy): Are you a surfer? It’s time you booked a ticket to South India’s Karnataka state.
To promote adventure tourism, the state tourism authorities have decided host the ‘Indian Open for Surfing’ at Mangaluru from May 27 to 29.

May 13 (TravelAndy): The Downtown Hotel at Dawson City in west Canada’s Yukon territory is looking for human toes to put in a cocktail. Yes, you read that right.
The Sourtoe Cocktail Club has put up a post on its Facebook page seeking toes saying, “Wanted: Toes for the Sourtoe Cocktail”.

Bicycle highway to connect Agra and Etawah
May 12 (TravelAndy): To encourage eco-tourism, India’s Uttar Pradesh state has decided to construct a 197 KM long bicycle highway from Taj Mahal in Agra to Lion’s Safari in Etawah, said reports.p
The first of its kind in India, this bicycle highway along the Agra-Etawah main road will cover many important tourist spots.

Law against tourist harass on cards
May 11 (TravelAndy): The state government in India’s Uttar Pradesh state is planning to introduce a law that will make harassing tourists a punishable offence, said The Asian Age.
Tourists, especially foreigners, are often bothered by tourist guides, beggars and autorickshaw drivers among other people in and around tourist spots. The government wants to put an end to this because it feels this reflects badly on the image of the state.

Adventure sports banned at Rohtang Pass
May 10 (TravelAndy): The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued fresh orders prohibiting all adventure sports at Rohtang Pass in north India’s Himachal Pradesh state.
To prevent further degradation of the ecologically-sensitive Rohtang Pass, the tribunal order suspended the plying of snow scooters, paragliding and similar sports in the area.

Air Canada rogue to fly Toronto-Trinidad
May 9 (TravelAndy): Air Canada’s subsidiary, Air Canada rogue is looking to launch flight services between Toronto and Trinidad from December 21, 2016.
The airline has planned to scheduled bi-weekly services departing Toronto on Wednesdays and Fridays at 9.00 and reach Port of Spain in Trinidad, at 15.25.
